Real vs. False: How Americans Struggle to Trust the News

Most Americans say it has become harder to tell whether the news they see is accurate, according to new data from the Pew Research Center.

Most Americans say they are finding it increasingly difficult to tell whether the news they consume is accurate, according to a recent Pew Research Center survey.

The study found 42% of U.S. adults say they often encounter news they believe is inaccurate, and 48% say it happens sometimes. Only 10% say they rarely come across information they think is incorrect.

Concerns about misinformation are highest among people who primarily get their news online. Pew found 46% of digital news consumers feel they regularly encounter inaccurate information, compared with 26% among those who rely on traditional, non-digital news sources.

Many Americans say the growing use of artificial intelligence in media has made them more uncertain about the reliability of the information they see.
